Massive Trophy Rainbow Trout caught and released on Lake Taneycomo

Surface temperatures on Table Rock lake due to a very cold early Winter season here are averaging about 43 degree lake wide.  This temperature has permeated the depths and the same temperatures are coming thru the tubes into lake Taneycomo. You ask, What does that mean for me?  Gosh and Golly, it means fun.  When temperatures get low on Table Rock lake, our Threadfin Shad population has a natural die off or a stunning.  This causes these yummy morsels to be drawn thru the tubes and flooded into Lake Taneycomo. Upper Taney goes fish crazy as our Rainbow and Brown Trout put on the Winter feed bag filling themselves to overflowing with these high protein goodies.   DSC_0001 At this time some of our largest trout of the year are caught while they feed on Threadfin Shad.  Good presentations can be anything white from jigs to wooley buggers to shad or minnow flys.  Other good baits are white spoons and small minnow imitation crankbaits. Getting out super early is always helpful, but it is not the necessity that it can be at other times of the year. Although we have had an unseasonable cold Start here, days in the upper 40's to low 60's are the norm rather than the exception. Take a look at your calendar and get out and beat the Winter Blues with some of our fantastic trout fishing.    We also have great lodging options in the Branson Missouri area.
